This Snapshots painting depicts four aspects of Trinity College in Dublin, starting with the stunning neoclassical façade. This building, which features the large wooden oak door, is one of the buildings most widely associated with Trinity. This ‘Snapshots’ painting also features the Rubrics building which dates back to the 1700’s and is one of the oldest buildings on campus. The last panel features the Campanile which is one of the most iconic landmarks of Trinity College and indeed Dublin. The Campanile, built in the mid-1800’s, is a 100 ft bell tower structure featuring four statues representing Divinity, Science, Medicine and Law.
‘Snapshots of Dublin’ is part of the Snapshots series which was shown for the first time at Art Source 2019 in the RDS in Dublin. The idea for the Snapshots series has developed from my interest in the built environment and the rich tapestry of history which is embedded within each and every building, street and city.
I paint using clean lines and strong colours. These bold blocks of colour suit the subject of largely urban environments, taking ‘snapshots’ of views which are the familiar evocative pieces that make up the jigsaw of the world we inhabit.
