This 30cm x 30cm print features a number of well known locations in Rathmines in Dublin including the stunning dome of the Church of Mary Immaculate, the Stella cinema and the iconic Rathmines clock tower.
Rathmines is one of the oldest and most distinctive of the old Townships of Dublin. Originally the site of the fort of a medieval Norman Baron, Rathmines has since become one of the most interesting areas of Dublin in terms of architecture. From rows of redbrick Georgian-style townhouses to a beautiful art deco post office and Dublin’s largest church dome, the visual splendor of Rathmines is undeniable.
‘Snapshots of Dublin’ is the first in the Snapshots series which was shown for the first time at Art Source 2019 in the RDS in Dublin. The idea for the Snapshots series has developed from my interest in the built environment and the rich tapestry of history which is embedded within each and every building, street and city.
I paint using clean lines and strong colours. These bold blocks of colour suit the subject of largely urban environments, taking ‘snapshots’ of views which are the familiar evocative pieces that make up the jigsaw of the world we inhabit.
